It is not maligning to have a malicious topic. After all, we want to talk about evil intentions and desires that exist in all of us; wickedness that resides in recesses of our beings. Evil inventions in the inner core of human beings have a way of osmotically and deliberately invading even the inanimate. The abiotic environment has not been spared human madness.
Well, we all love computers. I can put it better this way; we all need computers. They are crucially vital in this 21st Century. The most advanced man and woman in history cannot drive the economy without these machines. No wonder nowadays you hear of terminologies such as technocentric and techno-savvy. Life would be difficult in the absence of these essential thingamajigs.
Every development comes with its challenges, and the computer world is no exception.
Occasionally, while working on my computer, I have run into messages informing me that I have corrupted. This naturally raises questions concerning the security of the data and information in my computer. No one want to fool around with the wholesomeness of their essential gadgets. In such circumstances, I would run an antivirus scan immediately. Thank God, nowadays we have antiviruses that automatically swing into action, and in fact, they remotely monitor our computers. They Swing low, but not like the sweet chariot, offering real-time protection.
Can you imagine a scenario where there were no antiviruses? Our quality of life will ultimately and soundly go south.
I feel for those people who worked with computers years back when there were either ineffective or no antiviruses at all. The probability of losing all data was one out of one. However, with the advent of antiviruses, things changed for good. We managed to scale ladders magically, and now we are resting on our laurels. It is a dispensation of super-technology and superbugs.
Despite these tremendous developments, the hackers and malware developers have too upped their game. Evil has become malignant melodramatically. A theatre of evil and good has been opened, and thespians are trying to outwit one another.
So, how does an antivirus software secure my computer?
It prevents, searches for, detects, and remove software viruses, and other malicious software like worms, Trojans, adware, and more. The first time I heard of these terminologies, two things came into my mind: The intestinal worms and disease-causing viruses. I have witnessed several Trojan wars in my computer, and I am not happy this modern day malware has been given Bronze Age name. It would have been better if it was called ‘Vietnam’.
Malware bombardment is constant; as constant as twinkles of our eyes. This is why antivirus companies update their detection tools constantly to deal with the more new pieces of malware created daily.
Do we have malicious programs in our hearts?
It was the 17th Century famous philosopher Blaise Pascal who said, “The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of “. Pascal was right. Our hearts are a secretive place either acting as a safe vault for valuable items or graveyard full of skulls and bones.
The Bible in Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that our hearts are deceitful above all things and beyond cure. The heart in its natural form is infected with viruses, worms, Trojans and adwares. These malwares are manifested in the form of lies, jealousy, envy, uncontrollable anger among others. It is a secretive home to some of the most destructive malwares. A malware in my heart, if left unaddressed, can burn a whole nation.
Holocaust and all the evils perpetrated during the Second World War are a result of undeleted malwares in the hearts of men. The hearts of these men collected soot every day. They grew darker with each passing day. The light was finally smoked out by dark residue. The endgame was bloodshed that stained humanity history black.
Much of the wickedness we see around is due to hearts that are infected with malwares. It is a picture of a heart software that has malfunctioned and resulted in maleficence.
Our hearts are not magnanimous. They are malfunctioning and maladjusted. In most of the times, we are firing hatred instead of cupid arrows. From the first days of our lives, we learn to be selfish. We learn to lie. We learn to steal. It just comes naturally. The proclivity to steal has been technically wired in us. With wicked hearts, we are experts at creating confusion and contention, fooling others with smooth speech and flattering words, craving and demanding control. People with evil hearts always view themselves as the highest authority and are their self-references.
A heart with the malware play on the sympathies of good-willed people, often trumping the grace card, have no conscience, no remorse. An evil heart wants us to believe that our offensive actions should have no serious or painful consequences.
What is the best antivirus for our wicked hearts?
The bad news is that there is no antivirus for an ‘old’ heart. Nonetheless, the good news is that we can have a new heart with pre-installed and pre-tested antivirus. Just like Windows Defender is to Microsoft, so is Jesus to our new hearts. ‘I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.’ Ezekiel 36:26 NIV.
Does it surprise you that the same prophet Jeremiah who God uses to warn us of the wickedness of our hearts is the same man who God uses to pronounce a panacea to the same problem? ‘I will give them the heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.’ Jeremiah 24:7.
The in-built antivirus is none other than Jesus of Nazareth. He comes in with a new heart. The old heart is replaced. He is all-around protection. He sticks closer than a brother. He alone knows the types of malware in my heart. He alone can detect the malware deeply embedded in my heart. He alone can drill to the core of my heart and remove every malignant lump. If we reject His healing knife, then we should be ready for butcher’s knife. He is the resident surgeon.
The new heart is where God lives in union with me. I make decisions in my heart—the Holy Spirit and I together—so it’s a decision from the heart, from that place. To be clear, it’s not so much a decision OF the heart, like the heart is all-by-itself a decision maker. It’s a place where choices and influence happens most powerfully with God and me, and with God and you.
In this way, you and I, the new creation children of God, meet with Him and are under His influence and subsequent leading, which produces the fruit of the Spirit through you and me. We are set up for God on the inside. We have a real-time antivirus. No more loss of data. No more sluggishness. No more crushes.
