Cheering is part and parcel of sporting events. Almost all sports and games have some form of cheering. Football, basketball, athletics and rugby commands a huge following. The supporters watch and cheer their teams with gusto and fervor in hope that the final whistle will favour them. Cheering boost the confidence of those playing and in turn, may perform better. Even if they do not win, the support given by fans is enough to make them live to fight another day. That is why firing up players is imperative.
Jeering is sometimes part of the game too. This is whereby one side tries to scare the hell out of their opponents by speaking, singing and shouting words that drain their mental strength. It is part of the tactic employed to ensure the opponent is rendered mentally scrawny.
Both cheering and jeering are not a preserve of formal competitive engagements alone. It similarly happens in sport entertainments stables like WWE and TNA Wrestling. That is why you will notice children and teenagers excited when they spot John Cena sporting ‘Never Give Up’ t-shirt.
The Home Advantage Theory applies here too. The bigger the audience the higher the morale the players will develop. A hyped player is a hitman: A danger to the opponents. A demoralized player is a recipe for a debacle. Big audience provides a good cheering squad. The outnumbered side has an obvious less moral support.
This whole thing has nothing eccentric in it. It is all about the right words. Speaking the right words makes sense. Speaking the wrong words makes fence; divides and destroys.
Have you ever listened to words that inspired you to do something you had abandoned? Have you ever listened to preaching that made you swing into action instantly? Have you ever listened to words that killed your drive and made you turn 180 degrees? It happens all the time.
How many times have we belittled our worth by through careless words?
How many times have we stalled our lives with our words?
How many people have we destroyed by our reckless words?
It only takes few seconds to say a word that can lit an inextinguishable fire. We require just a few minutes of ranting to incinerate a life, family, community, and nation.
Words are powerful
Words are powerful. So powerful that they can build or destroy. Do not squander your words. Do you always talk negative of yourself and other people? Are you always whining about life? Do you spend your time calling all women, ‘sluts’ and men ‘dogs’? Do you spend your time confessing how terrible your situation is? Do you spend your time speaking negativism into your life – career, marriage, relationships, ministry, finances………..?
Do not be fooled that words cannot harm you. Negative word strike harder than Mike Tyson. Fiery speeches hit like a hurricane. We can sabotage ourselves by our own words.
Dear Reader, allow me to subject you to a task: Kindly read the following verses and then go to the Bible to find where they are recorded. May God bless us and teach us to speak with wisdom as we do this.
- A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, and from the produce of his lips he shall be filled.
- Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
- For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, `Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says.
- But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the Day of Judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
